Read with context
Check the period, source and update state before interpreting a summary.
Read an earthquake dashboard
Start with the period and the displayed records. A headline magnitude needs the same source and coverage context as the underlying table.
Check the period
Read the start and end of the displayed period and when the result was updated.
Interpret the displayed summary
Locate the largest displayed magnitude and the corresponding displayed record. A truncated view is not a whole-catalogue maximum.
Check source and time
Distinguish event time from retrieval and processing time. Keep the source attribution with any result you share.
Read the source, time and coverage information alongside each result.
